Although the engagement has long been and gone, and our first wedding anniversary just past us by it seems fitting to go back in time and recap the happenings since the purchase of the (not so) perfect house ...... So.....
There is lots of talk about when the wedding will be, where the wedding will be, what the dress will look like who will be the bridesmaids, and just about a thousand other details that it is impossible to get my head around ......but first things first – the engagement:
Originally J and I thought that we would get married in October; then it became September/October and then, for some reason I can’t explain, I picked the 20th of August and that became the date to end all dates.
It would be informative to know (and you will learn as we (you and I) continue this journey together) that J and I loathe being hot. We don’t do beaches (the occasional walk at sun set doesn’t count), the idea of baking in the sun is our own personal nightmare ..... and don’t get us started on Summer and our personal suffering in the perishing heat... With this new information in mind you will now have some insight into why many (if not all) decision are made in our family.
So with that in mind we knew that we had to fit in the engagement party asap before the heat of Summer really hit us.
My parents were generous enough to allow us to use their backyard. My father spent the 4.5 weeks we had until the engagement party turning their garden into an oasis of garden tranquillity.
My mother, my sister and I set about decorations.....
We decided on a lime green and white theme. Set in the garden were tables with white cloths with green runners and white roses. There were candles in every tree and fairy lights lanterns hanging from the mature trees and the umbrella. By day it was a garden party and by night it was like a magical fairyland.
The whole night was wonderful – we had our friends and family and we both had the most fantastic night....
We announced that night: the wedding date 8th of April 2011 – we had just four months to pull together this wedding .....
